Lajkonik (hobby-horse)

Glossary

Seven days after Corpus Christi (a thursday in May or June), a colourful pageant headed by the Lajkonik, a figure disguised as a Tatar riding horse, sets off from a convent in a Kraków suburb for the main square. The ceremony dates back to the 13th century Tatar invasions.
